Longworth Venture Partners

Longworth Venture Partners is a Massachussets-based venture capital company. Longworth has been investing in leading technology companies for over twenty years and was in dire need of a redesign. We created a simple and clean layout with which to showcase their portfolio and investment team. We also collaboratively restructured the site by removing many pages, consolidating text, and reorganizing the site’s structure. We chose Movable Type to power the site due to its ease-of-use and powerful templating engine.

What visitors do not see is as interesting as what they do. One of the main requirements was that the site be easily maintainable. Ease of adding new portfolio companies, heads-up displays, information graphics, and textual content was paramount. The Longworth site relies on Javascript and Movable Type’s templating to construct complex layouts and features out of simple — and in some cases, no — markup. For example, the portfolio companies page — with its large tabluar layout, HUDs, multiple images per company, supporting text, and tooltips — is created from a simple one-dimensional list of companies.

Migdal Ohr

Migdal Ohr is the world’s largest orphanage. We performed a complete redesign in time for their highly publicized basketball game. We brought the site out of Flash to make it more accessible. Then, leveraging Adobe’s Business Catalyst platform, we created a site that can be very easily maintained by non-technical people. The site stood up to a monstrous amount of traffic as people donated more than ever after Migdal Ohr’s charity basketball game. Recently, we streamlined their donation page and moved it from a hard-coded HTML form to Business Catalyst’s editable form component.

Oriens Healing Sanctuary

Oriens Healing Sanctuary is a New York City-based fertility clinic and holistic spa. Oriens’ founder approached us to redesign her company’s antiquated website. We transformed it from a cluttered, image-free page into a well-organized, elegant site. Our first challenge was organizing the content. There were pages and pages of content strewn around the site without any clear way to get to them. We began by deciding what content would go, what would stay, and where it would live. Oriens’ transforming navigation bar was born out of a need to simplify the wealth of available information.

Our second challenge was in keeping the pages organized. The founder, who maintains the site, was not accustomed to laying out content, so the pages were shapeless and cluttered. We created three versatile column-based layouts to corral the information and make it digestible.

Oriens is enjoying more business than ever thanks to its greatly expanded web presence.

Nationwide is a New York-based Home Warranty provider that covers the repair and replacement of home systems, components, and appliances. We approached Nationwide with the intention of redesigning their website, but realized there was a bigger opportunity to be had by all. Our first order of business was to address their unattractive and nonfunctioning website. We decided to move their entire site, including backend, from PHP to Rails to give the site the structure it needed and to ease the creation of new features. Finally, all of the work had to be accomplished in 4 weeks, including rewriting the backed and reworking the database to work with Rails.

After the first two Iterations, we decided to switch to Engine Yard fully managed hosting, resulting in significantly decreased downtime and virtually no server maintenance. For the next two Iterations, we extended their backend to automate more work and accommodate a more interactive frontend. Nationwide used to send contracts to each of their tens of thousands of customers, filling in the appropriate coverage information by hand. By generating PDF contracts on-the-fly and making them easily available to all customers, we have saved them thousands of dollars in toner and paper alone. We are also eliminating paper use by switching Nationwide to electronic faxes. The application connects directly to email inboxes, retrieves the documents and publishes them.

The New York State Acupuncture Coalition

We created the identity for the New York State Acupuncture Coalition. NYSAC was founded to bring changes to legislature that will more clearly define acupuncture scope of practice, better protect the public, and help the profession self-regulate. Under a strict two week deadline, we created a logo, business cards, invitations and a trifold brochure that was translated into 2 languages. We also created a style guide for the legislative guide. Our invitations were received by every United States Senator and our materials were distributed at a massive legislative gathering.

We also made technological contributions to the campaign. We designed a member management application and facilitated online donations. Finally, we developed an application to verify the addresses of constituents and help them get in touch with their politicians in order to influence the political climate relating to patient safety and herbal medicine.

We also created a leads tracker and laid the foundation for reporting by recording the searches performed.
